Episode 6 – Nina Smith

Within this podcast episode, International Airport Review’s Editor, Tara Nolan, spoke to Nina Smith, Head of Aviation Security Training and Human Factors at the Civil Aviation Authority, who is working with the industry to raise security standards through innovative thinking.

As technologies continue to evolve, the aviation industry must ensure all sectors within it adapt – including security. Regulatory bodies are working to ensure this occurs – work that is imperative for the safety of both passengers and staff.

The human factor “can play a significant part”, however “root-cause analysis”, “motivation” and “automation” are also massive players determining the quality of an airport’s security processes.

To tackle these varying aspects, Nina offers advice to airports to ensure the work environment is as productive as possible, that entities are “aware of their own vulnerabilities”, and staff are “equipped with the necessary tools”.

Threats, challenges and solutions in regard to airport security will be further discussed at International Airport Review’s flagship conference – Airport IT & Security. This year’s event will take place in Munich over 19-21 October 2020, with senior decision makers in attendance, workshops, product demonstrations, debates and panel discussions.
